Our clients tell us that extended-stay hotels work best for short stays of a week or less, where a much smaller room will do.  Typically, extended-stay rooms include a small refrigerator, a cook top, microwave and sink in the sleeping room.  However, this is all in the space of a typical hotel room, and is much smaller than our smallest one bedroom apartment.

There is no sales tax, hotel occupancy tax, or State tax due on stays in our apartments because of the 30-day minimum stay requirement.  Short-term hotel and extended stay hotel stays less than 30 days in our area incur tax rates of anywhere from 11% to 20% beyond the daily rate.

It makes sense to compare the total rate including taxes when looking at stays anywhere from three weeks on up.  You might be dollars ahead by renting a furnished apartment for one month with no sales tax, versus paying a daily hotel rate with sales tax.

Extended-stay hotel rooms also are normally designed for one business traveler.
